![]() ![]() The Problem When we ask managers, "What is the most important part of your management job?", the majority say, "Managing our people to perform well". And yet when we ask those same managers, "Where do you get the least amount of help from your boss or organization?", they say "In managing our people to perform well!" That is a problem. In business we have traditionally promoted someone who is good at doing a job into the position of managing others doing that same job. Unfortunately, we seldom give that manager the knowledge and skills necessary to do this completely new and different job - managing people. Over time we have created generations of managers who are basically untrained for the job of managing. We have asked them to make it up as they go along. Some do a pretty good job at it, but unfortunately, many do not. As a result, many managers who want to do a good job feel like they are not getting the results they want. They put a lot of effort, time and energy into helping their people, but are mystified and frustrated when those efforts seem to produce little improvement. The Solution Effective Coaching is what separates the good managers from those who are merely getting by. Understanding why people fail, and how to prevent failure, is the basis for creating employee up success. Knowing the nuts and bolts of what to do as a manager, and when to do it, is crucial for helping any employee excel and succeed on the job. By incorporating Coaching, and a simple Preventive Management approach, managers can create positive changes in the behavior of everyone from high achievers to the most difficult problem employees. As one manager said, " . . . this is the first time anyone has ever told me how to take specific actions to solve my people management problems". The solution lies in the Coaching Seminar. |
